Decision Support Tool for Greening in Cruise Ship New Building Project

HHX developed a comprehensive decision-support tool for a cruise shipping company, enabling equity investors to thoroughly evaluate the trade-offs between environmental benefits and financial outcomes associated with various technological and fuel scenarios in a new vessel-building project.

The tool provided stakeholders with clear insights into how different combinations of green technologies and fuels performed against critical environmental criteria—including COeq per passenger-mile, COeq per MJ, and anticipated compliance durations aligned with regulatory targets for 2035, 2050, and beyond. Additionally, it assessed the financial impact in terms of cost per passenger-mile, focusing particularly on the incremental equity investment required due to higher acquisition costs.

By delivering this innovative and practical solution, HHX empowered investors to deeply understand the business proposition, identify potential risks, and develop effective mitigation strategies. Ultimately, the cruise company was equipped to confidently navigate the evolving regulatory landscape while advancing toward greener, more efficient vessels that align seamlessly with both financial objectives and sustainability standards.
